Esperanzaʼs Intimate Approach

Esperanzaʼs Intimate Approach

Esperanzaʼs Spaulding, an incredibly talented bass player with a voice that draws you in close and whispers sweetly in your ear, has broken the mold, the preconceived notions of the bass playing solely a supportive role by putting herself front and center. The musical and visual focal point, she channels all this incredible talent and energy through her multi faceted arrangements and thoughtfully crafted originals. The Chamber Music Society is able to strike that rare and coveted balance of incredible technical prowess and songs so beautiful they can not be denied. Esperanza Spalding conceived of Chamber Music Society as an intimate experience, a close musical exchange between a small group of friends. If it was intimacy she wanted, she got her wish: Performing three songs in the constraints of Bob Boilen's workspace (NPRʼs Tiny Desk Concertʼs Studio) ensures that all of her supporting players were nice and cozy.
